It was a glittering moment – years in the making – and more than a billion people around the world were watching.
Indian Olympic team for their flag-bearing lap at the opening ceremony. Stadium resplendent with lights and a rapturous crowd.The only problem? An unscripted moment involving a woman (revealed to be Madhura Honey ) in turquoise jeans and a red jacket marching alongside Indian flag bearer Sushil Kumar at the head of the delegation of 40 athletes in bright yellow and navy blue was not supposed to be there. Indian officials said they had no clue who the woman was. The way people tell it she and another volunteer were supposed to escort the Indian Olympians to the edge of the track. But Ms. Honey, for whatever reason, just kept going. And going. And going.
The
Indian contingent was shown for just 10 seconds and this lady hogged all the
limelight. Instead of this ‘Mystery Woman’ Indian organizers could have opted
for any Bollywood beauty to (see picture) certainly get more footage in terms
of time and also more coverage in International media. A better carefully ‘scripted choice’ in fact could have
showcased the Indian talent and would have worked wonders for Sushil Kumar . Best
of luck for closing ceremony.
